Purpose of the Assignment

Purpose:  The purpose of this paper is to guide you through a process of self-reflection and self-evaluation to discover the scope of your personal and professional development while enrolled in the RN>BSN nursing program at Old Dominion University.

Student Approach to the Assignment

This paper was written to illustrate my journey through the BSN program and highlight the knowledge I have attained through various assignments and experiences.

Reason for Inclusion

This assignment is included in my portfolio to demonstrate the eight core competencies associated with the completion of a BSN education.  Various examples from courses were described and have contributed to the advancement of my current nursing practice.

Nursing Practice

  • Performs direct and indirect therapeutic interventions that incorporate principles of quality management and proper safety techniques based upon assessment findings.

This assignment allowed me to reflect and shape my nursing practice.  I feel more prepared to assess, delegate, and provide interventions for patients.  In addition, I have learned proper safety techniques in incorporating interventions to provide quality patient care.

  • Differentiates between general, institutional, and specialty-specific standards of practice to guide nursing care

This paper summarizes my understanding of the standards of practice used in nursing and how they will be used to guide the nursing care I provide to patients.

Reflecting on the completion of my BSN, I  plan to further my education and immerse myself in a specialized field. With this, I understand nursing is an ongoing learning process and I will keep up to date with evidence based practice to advance my skills.
