Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint the student to assemble a PowerPoint presentation. In addition the student will organize content about their value/viewpoint of the professional image of a nurse.

Approach to Assignment

In order to complete this assignment, I was able to identify and express my viewpoint of the professional image of a nurse based on my clinical and professional experiences. Reflecting on the most important characteristics that make up the professional image of a nurse and based on literature helped me frame an ideal picture. After researching, I made a clear and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation to display the information.

Reason for Inclusion

This assignment has been included because I believe it not only expresses my viewpoint on the professional image of a nurse in a comprehensive and clear manner but it also demonstrates an ability to use different software and presentation styles to communicate information.

Curricular outcomes

Leadership

• Articulates the values of the profession and the role of the nurse as member of the interdisciplinary health care team. In this assignment, I articulate how the nurse is an integral part of the interdisciplinary health care team by focusing on two major roles that nurses play that are part of their nursing image. They include being caring towards their patients and being their educators. Nurses are caring by communicating with patients and their families, meeting their physical and emotional needs and advocating for them. Nurses are also constantly educating patients regarding their medical conditions, medications, self-care and providing discharge teaching.

Professionalism

• Understands the effect of legal and regulatory processes on nursing practice and health care delivery, as well as limits to one’s own scope of practice. Based on my viewpoint, one of the most important characteristics that must be present in a professional nurse is ethics. Nurses are held to an ethical standard defined by a code of ethics and this is expressed in my presentation.

• Demonstrates accountability for ones own professional practice. In order for a nurse to be successful in professional practice, it is his/her responsibility to be caring, ethical, to continue education and to provide education for the patients under their care. This aspect of the assignment demonstrates my understanding of how I, as a nurse, am accountable for my own professional practice.
